Piers Morgan slams lefties over ‘childish’ Donald Trump visit protests – but jokes he wants a baby blimp

PIERS Morgan has blasted leftie protesters for preparing another mass demonstration against Donald Trump when he comes to Britain in June.

And he attacked them for not protesting on the same huge scale when other controversial leaders like Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi, or George Bush came to the UK.

The Good Morning Britain presenter told campaigner Asad Rehman that the US President didn’t care about the thousands who took to the streets last year when he came for a working trip.

Executive Director at War on Want, Mr Rehman, argued that the red carpet shouldn’t be rolled out for him in a state visit.

“This is not a normal President,” he said.

In a heated row on the ITV breakfast show, Piers blasted back: “I was with Trump on Air Force One, he wasn’t even aware of [the protests]. He went nowhere near London. he didn’t give a stuff.

“What really is the point? What does it achieve? Other than potentially irritating America, at a time when as a country, coming out of the European Union, frankly we’ve never needed America more?”

Piers said that there was hypocrisy among many campaigners who decided not to line the streets for other leaders with dubious records.
“Where were the mass protests for these people?” he argued.

And it was a terrible time to make “our number one security ally, one of our biggest trading partners” feel unwelcome in Britain, he stressed.

Writer Toby Young added: “We’ve never needed that alliance more than we do now.”

Piers also claimed the Trump baby balloon was “childish” and “pretty offensive” – but admitted he wouldn’t mind having his own blimp.

Piers’ co-host Susanna Reid quipped; “The reality is, you’re sort of jealous of the blimp, aren’t you? You want your own blimp.”

“I’d love a massive blimp,” he joked.

Campaigners have said the giant balloon will be wheeled out again in London when President Trump comes in June.

The US President has accepted an official invite for a British state visit in weeks.

He came on a whistle-stop working visit last year but largely stayed away from London to avoid the thousands of protesters.

This time he is set to have an official state banquet – which Jeremy Corbyn and Speaker John Bercow have already decided to boycott.
