The Good Morning Britain presenter didn’t hold back on this week’s ‘absurd’ announcement and slammed the streaming service for hiring the ‘shameless’ couple simply because they are ex-royals.
It came after Netflix co-CEO Ted Sandros confirmed the company had signed up Harry and Meghan as their ‘authenticity, optimism and leadership’ had ‘inspired millions’ around the world.
Responding in his column for the MailOnline, Piers ranted: “How could anyone possibly feel ‘inspired’ by Meghan and Harry’s ‘authenticity, optimism and leadership’ or ‘resilience’ given that they’ve spent the past two years whining, quitting, living off rich people and preaching about equality from their position of supreme elitism?”
But Piers did admit the multi million dollar deal is an ‘amazing’ feat for the couple as their combined production experience could be ‘written on the back of a postage stamp.’
“Their entire joint CV would read something like: ‘Meghan was a suitcase girl on Deal or No Deal and an actress on Suits, a TV show made in Canada. And Harry’s shown some real thespian promise with his hostage video performances on camera during lockdown,” spat Piers.
He then described the couple as ‘gutless’ and work shy who had quit royal duties to become ‘shameless money grabbing celebrities.’
Harry and Meghan, who married in 2018 before quitting their roles in the Royal family this year, broke the latest major announcement in their personal lives to fans this week.
Sharing their excitement to work with Netflix on shows close to their heart, they said in a joint statement: “Our lives, both independent of each other and as a couple, have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection.”
They went on: “As new parents making inspirational family programming is also important to us as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.”
Piers said this line made him ‘laugh out loud’ as he claimed both Harry and Meghan had deserted their own families.
Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal was announced by a gushing statement from the streaming service’s co-CEO Ted Sandros.
“Harry and Meghan have inspired millions of people all around the world with their authenticity, optimism and leadership. We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home – and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere.”
It comes six months after Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties and moved to California to live away from the media spotlight.
According to Deadline, projects are already being developed including an “innovative nature docu-series and an animated series that celebrates inspiring women”.
The couple will make Netflix shows under their as yet untitled production company.
