Piers Morgan shames Boris over 'absolutely pathetic' response to coronavirus crisis

Piers Morgan hit out at the Government’s battle plan to slow down the spread of coronavirus across the UK, insisting warnings to wash one’s hands as often as possible is not enough. The Good Morning Britain host also challenged the decision to go ahead with the Budget despite the risks associated with having a large group of people assembled in the House of Commons. Mr Morgan slammed the decision as “nonsense” as he admitted he is concerned about the Government being able to tackle the COVID-19 outbreak.

Mr Morgan said: “I don’t even understand why they would even countenance having the Budget today in a packed Parliament.

“One of their own MPs, a health minister, is at home with coronavirus. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

“It only shows me the Government is not taking this seriously enough, that they are prepared now to all pack in like sardines into the very place where there’s been a coronavirus outbreak. Tell me how does that make any sense?”

The GMB host continued: “Isn’t it absolutely pathetic that the British Government cannot put a minister on this programme to speak to millions of viewers about this crisis.

“If they don’t have the guts to put someone on this programme to come and answer some tough questions, I don’t trust them to have the guts to wage a battle against coronavirus.

“It shows the weakness of their strength of character and that’s not what we need in these times.”

Earlier in the programme the GMB host had taken a pop at Boris Johnson while watching a video of the Prime Minister urging Britons to wash their hands, saying he was “sick of the smirking.”

Piers Morgan’s rant came hours after Health Minister Nadine Dorries, who helped draw up the plans to tackle the COVID-19 epidemic, confirmed she tested positive to coronavirus

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said: “Really sorry to hear Nadine has tested positive for coronavirus.

“She has done the right thing by self-isolating at home, and both NHS and PHE staff have been brilliant.

“We all wish her well as she recovers. I understand why people are worried about this disease.

“We will do all we can to keep people safe, based on the best possible science.”
