Piers Morgan says 'Susanna and I have never been heavier' after weight gain

Piers Morgan has risked the wrath of his Good Morning Britain co-star Susanna Reid by declaring they “have never been heavier” following their lockdown weight gain.

The telly presenter, 55, opened up about his health kick on The Mid Point podcast with Gabby Logan this week.

He revealed he’s on a strict diet and doing Peloton cycling in a bid to ditch the extra pounds he put on last year.

Piers also confessed he feels his co-star Susanna, 50, is in a similar situation to him as they both are heavier than they’ve ever been following multiple lockdowns.

He said: “You’d have to have a will of iron to get through that lockdown without putting on a bit of weight and comfort eating a bit too much….

“Susanna and I, both we’ve never been heavier.

“I’m about 16 stone now, 6ft 1in and hovering on that body mass index (BMI)now near classed as obesity.

“I don’t want to get there. I want to get down below 100 kilos (15st 10lb).

“It’s not going to be easy, I feel that. I haven’t had any bread for three and half weeks.

“I’m back on the Peloton, I’m not drinking, rather than something draconian, it’s just a lifestyle alteration where less is more, a bit less food going down my gullet.”

He also admitted life as a breakfast TV presenter is not always good for weight loss because it’s easy to fall into bad habits.

Piers said: “The lifestyle of a breakfast TV presenter is shocking.

“You eat about four meals before lunchtime. You’ve had 10/12 mugs of tea, then you come off starving… you get to 1pm and you’ve eaten enough for a family of 10.”

He also hailed fellow ITV star Eamonn Holmes as his weight loss hero as he’s managed to lose three stone in five years after changing his lifestyle.

Piers added: “He looks great and he’s gone back to where I used to be and he’s now my fitness role model.”
