Derek Draper, who is married to Good Morning Britain presenter Ms Garraway, was taken to hospital with Covid-19 at the end of March
Garraway’s fellow presenter Morgan told TalkRadio presenter Kevin O’Sullivan on Sunday that Mr Draper was still in intensive care.
He said: “I’ve had Kate Garraway, who’s the Good Morning Britain co-presenter of mine, her husband Derek Draper is fighting for his life as we speak and has been for many weeks in an ICU unit.”
Morgan added that a cousin’s father had died with coronavirus, while the mother of a friend also died after catching the disease.
He went on: “So I’ve been personally affected by this, by the sheer volume of friends of mine and family who have been directly impacted in the most horrific manner.
“So yeah, I do feel a personal attachment to this story. But I think most people, if they have a conscience, should.”
Ben Shephard, another presenter on Good Morning Britain, shared an update on Mr Draper on Friday.
He said: “A lot of you have been asking how Kate, Darcey, and Billy are, and Derek. We can update you because Kate did last night on her Instagram.”
Ms Garraway said in her post that she and her children, aged 14 and 10, had video-called Mr Draper. She added that she believed her husband could hear them, despite his condition.
The presenter also thanked fans for their “comforting” words of support in a blog post.
Mr Morgan has been an outspoken critic of the Government’s response to the coronavirus crisis in the UK.
