Piers Morgan has reminded his followers of the seriousness of long Covid as Lewis Hamilton required medical attention at today’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers issued a stark warning shortly after the sporting star announced he is suffering with symptoms of the illness, saying he has also not returned to full health.

‘Do not underestimate the effects of long-covid,’ Piers wrote. ‘I’ve never had fatigue like this, nearly 3 weeks after symptoms started.

‘Lewis, one of the world’s fittest athletes, had covid 8 months ago and is still having issues he believes are linked to it.’

Seven-time world champion star Lewis drove superbly to race from last to third and take the lead of the Formula One world championship following a frenetic race at the Hungaroring on Sunday.

But Lewis was visibly struggling after the 70-lap race. He was assisted onto the podium and then appeared unable to summon the strength to hold his celebratory champagne bottle.

Lewis, who contracted coronavirus in Dubai last December and was ruled out of the subsequent Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain, was taken to see the Mercedes team doctor.

A spokesperson for the Silver Arrows said the British driver was suffering with dizziness and fatigue.

Lewis missed his post-race television interviews, before arriving late to the FIA’s official press conference for the top three finishers.

‘I haven’t spoken to anyone particularly about long Covid, but I think it is lingering there,’ he said.

‘I was having real dizziness and everything got a bit blurry on the podium. I have been fighting with staying healthy following what happened at the end of last year, but still it’s a battle.

‘I remember the effects of when I had Covid, and training has been different ever since then. The level of fatigue that you get is different and it’s a real challenge.’

Lewis added: ‘I’m trying to keep training and preparing as best I can. Who knows what it was today? Maybe it was hydration, I don’t know, but it was definitely different.’

Lewis said he also felt unwell during the British Grand Prix a fortnight ago.

He continued: ‘I suffered with something similar (last month) at Silverstone, but today was way worse.’

Meanwhile, Piers revealed he was left with chest pains, fever and cold sweats after catching Covid-19 at the Euros final at Wembley.
