Piers Morgan ‘replaced’ by Richard Madeley as GMB bosses ‘line up trial stint’

Speculation has been rife as to who will take over from Piers Morgan after the controversial presenter left his role on Good Morning Britain in March. Now it’s been reported bosses will give Richard Madeley a trial over the summer. It’s believed they are hoping Richard will be a good replacement for Piers.

Since Piers left his role on Good Morning Britain, a whole roster of hosts have presented the show.

Sean Fletcher, Adil Ray and Alex Beresford have all stepped in to host alongside Kate Garraway, Susanna Reid and Charlotte Hawkins.

Ben Shephard has also presented more episodes alongside Susanna in the place of Piers.

However it seems Susanna could soon have a new co-host in the form of Richard, who claimed he would be “bonkers” to turn down the offer.

A source told The Sun, Richard has “his own inimitable style” and a trained journalist like Piers.

He “knows how to press guests” and “get a decent ‘line’ from interviewees” they added.

The insider continued: “He shoots from the hip, says what he thinks, and is a genuinely brilliant, likeable chap off air — so it’s very much a ‘watch this space.’”

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Good Morning Britain for comment.

Richard’s odds of taking over a host on Good Morning Britain look “stronger than ever” according to bookmakers.

The TV presenter has reportedly “volunteered” to take over from Piers on the morning show, and the bookies make him just a 2/1 shot to do exactly that on a permanent basis.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Adil Ray’s stint on the sofa hasn’t gone down remarkably with fans, and there’s every chance Piers’ full-time replacement comes in the form of GMB regular, Richard Madeley.”

However, it seems Richard does face competition from Alex Beresford to take the main presenting role.

Bookies believe after Alex’s passionate row with Piers over Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey could secure his role as a permanant host.

“After making his long-awaited return to the GMB panel, the latest odds suggest there’s a strong chance Alex Beresford will be confirmed as Piers’ permanent replacement,” Alex continued.

Alex’s odds of replacing Piers stand at 5/1 while Ben Shephard is at 4/5 and Adil Ray is priced at 5/2.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
