Piers Morgan reaches out to Christiane Amanpour as she announces cancer battle live on air

CNN regular Christiane Amanpour, 63, revealed she had been off air for four weeks due to being diagnosed with cancer. She went on to say she had undergone “successful surgery” to remove it, as well as chemotherapy.

The journalist began by saying: “I want to first thank Bianna Golodryga and the whole team for holding down the fort so well over the last four weeks, which have been a bit of a rollercoaster for me.

“Because during that time, like millions of women around the world, I had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer,” she added.

”I’m now undergoing several months of chemotherapy for the very best possible long-term prognosis, and I’m confident.

“I’m also fortunate to have health insurance through work, and incredible doctors who are treating me in a country underpinned by, of course, the brilliant NHS.”

“I wish you every success with your treatment.”

Many of his fans also rushed to his post to send their well wishes.

She urged women to educate themselves about the disease and get all the regular screenings and scans available.

“Always listen to your bodies, and of course ensure that your legitimate medical concerns are not dismissed or diminished,” she added.

According to the NHS, symptoms of ovarian cancer include feeling bloated all the time, a swollen tummy and tummy pain.

The main treatment for ovarian cancer is surgery to remove the cancer and chemotherapy to kill any remaining cancer cells.
