Piers Morgan: 'Poor family' GMB host leads tributes as Emiliano Sala's dad dies aged 58

Piers Morgan, 54, took to the micro-blogging site to pay a heartfelt tribute to Emiliano Sala’s father, Horacio Sala, 58, who reportedly died at home in Argentina. The Good Morning Britain host, wrote in view of his 6.63 million followers: “Jeez. How incredibly sad. Poor family.” The heartbreaking news comes after Emiliano was killed when a plane taking him to Cardiff crashed into the English Channel, earlier this year.  According to the Mail Online, local Argentinian politician Julio Muller confirmed Horacio’s death.

Julio said: “He could never get over Emi’s death.”

It was also reported the politician spoke to local radio station, La Red saying: “2019 doesn’t let up in shocking us with news in this town.

“At 5 o’clock in the morning, a lady, his wife, rang me and she was very upset. The doctors were there but when I arrived at their home, he had already died.”

The devastating news comes after his son, Emiliano, died in January after travelling back from Nantes where he said goodbye to his former team-mates in France.

The Argentine footballer was on his way to joining his new club Cardiff City from French club Nantes in a club record £15m deal when the crash happened over the English Channel.

The plane carrying the footballer and pilot David Ibbotson went missing over waters near the Channel Islands.

It took rescuers up to two weeks to find the wreckage of the plane.

Emiliano’s body was recovered in February after a private rescue team took over the search of the missing plane.

His funeral took place in the same month, and was held at the club he played for when he was young in his hometown of Progreso.

At the time of his untimely death, Cardiff City paid tribute to the footballer, and said: “We offer our most heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the family of Emiliano. He and David will for ever remain in our thoughts.”

Prior to his death, the athlete expressed his excitement for joining the new club.

Taking to his Instagram account, he wrote: “Very happy to sign here @cardiffcityfc! I know the challenge is big but together we will make it.

“Impatient to discover the league & the team #BlueBirds.”(sic)
