Piers Morgan: GMB host's brutal jibe at BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker amid co-star's 'exit'

Piers Morgan, 54, took to the micro-blogging site where he said he “doesn’t blame” Steph McGovern, 37, for her career move over to rival station Channel 4 as he wouldn’t want to work with Dan Walker, 42. The Good Morning Britain host branded BBC Breakfast star Dan as “dullsville” in a brutal swipe on social media. In view of his 6.8 million Twitter followers, Piers wrote: “Wow…The @BBCBreakfast TV Titanic lifeboats are out. Don’t blame you @stephbreakfast – I wouldn’t want to work with Dullsville Dan @mrdanwalker either!” He accompanied the post with a snap of the official Channel 4 press release which confirmed the pregnant star will be fronting her own live show.

Fans rushed to comment on the post, as one person said: “Wow, Piers, Dan really pressed your buttons didn’t he?”

Another person commented: “Haha now let’s see what reply he gives you now.”(sic)

While a third person added: “He’s really rattled you. Oh dear #tearsforpiers.”

Piers’ jibe comes after the pair had taken part in some cheeky banter online yesterday.

The GMB host took a swipe at Dan as he claimed to be “11 times more popular” than the BBC Breakfast host due to having a larger Twitter following.

In view of his 585,000 followers, the BBC Breakfast host said: “I’m disappointed with you. We are four tweets in and you haven’t compared Twitter followers yet. Enjoy the rest of your Monday.”

Piers fired back: “Now you mention it, I currently have 6.2 million more followers than you, which makes me 11 times as popular. Not sure how you can enjoy your Monday after that, but good luck!”

The pair regularly go back and forth on social media taking cheeky jibes at one another.

Meanwhile, Dan has hinted that his co-star Steph will be departing from BBC Breakfast.

He tweeted: “She will be a big loss but she’ll also be fantastic at her new gig and we wish her all the best. “Well done @stephbreakfast (I imagine you’ll have to change that now). Consistently brilliant.”

The pregnant star has been a business correspondent on BBC Breakfast since her debut in 2010.

She will host her own programme, The Steph Show, every weekday from 6am until 9.15 am on the rival network, Channel 4.

Steph said: “I’m really chuffed to be creating my own live show with Channel 4 in Leeds.

“It’s going to be nerve-wracking, but there’s nothing I love more than finding out what makes people tick, whether it’s a famous face or someone we haven’t met yet who has a cracking story to tell.

“This is a dream come true for me and I can’t wait to get started next year.

“Just a small matter of having a baby first!”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6.30am and Good Morning Britain airs on ITV at the same time.
