Piers Morgan defends GMB co-star Susanna Reid as viewer criticises her: 'This is nasty'

Susanna Reid addressed a Twitter user who said she is “utterly complicit” for not “challenging” her Good Morning Britain co-star, Piers Morgan.

The ITV favourite hit back at the user, with Piers also having his say on the matter.

The tweet read: “Excuse me, why is #StanSusanna trending? She sits next to Piers Morgan every morning smiling away while he spouts bigotry & ignorance.

“She’s utterly complicit. People who don’t challenge morally unjust views in a public forum with a wide audience should be held accountable too.”

Susanna wrote back: “I spend my mornings challenging the views of @piersmorgan.

“I spend the rest of the day being told *checks notes* I don’t challenge him.

“Your choice not to watch the programme but at least have an informed view.”

Piers went on to call his friend and Good Morning Britain co-star a “strong woman” and slammed the user for being “nasty and sexist”.

“Actually, @susannareid100 is a strong, independent woman that challenges me all the time,” he wrote back.

“So this is just nasty, sexist claptrap & so sadly typical of the vile, hypocritical ‘woke’ brigade.”

In a separate tweet, Piers said: “#StanSusanna.”

Earlier this week, a petition was created to get Piers sacked, due to his comments on gender identity.

And for those lucky viewers who voted for him to be fired, the controversial host will be taking a break from the ITV show.

At the end of this morning’s programme, Piers told those watching: “Good Morning Britain is back tomorrow.

“I’m not. I’ll see you in a couple of weeks. Bye.”

Piers addressed his upcoming absence in view of his 6.8 million followers, and revealed he will in fact be soaking up the sun in the United States next week.

He wrote: “When you say ‘taken off air’, I think you mean ‘has taken himself off air to go lie under a palm tree in Beverly Hills’.”

The Good Morning Britain pair are regularly replaced during half terms and school holidays.

Good Morning Britain airs on ITV weekdays from 6am.
