Piers Morgan’s attempt to dip from the 2021 GQ Men of the Year Awards ended in disaster as he was left with a nasty injury.

The former Good Morning Britain star, 56, was in good spirits as he attended the bash at London’s Tate Modern, after beating an Ofcom complaint made against him hours before.

Prince Harry appeared virtually from America where he slammed ‘mass-scale misinformation that creates vaccine hesitancy’ during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He was pictured throwing up a peace sign as he sat in the back of a car to make his way home, having decided to skip out early.

Writing in his Mail Online column, Piers confessed that he had accidentally walked into a ‘large plate-glass window’ on the way because looking at the triumphant headlines about him on his phone distracted him.

The incident left him with a cut above his eye and ‘semi-concussed’.

The Life Stories host explained: ‘As I left, I could hear Harry lecturing the audience about the danger of “misinformation” and “peddling lies”, without a shred of self-awareness. I chuckled and pulled out my phone to check the first-edition headlines of the newspapers.

‘To my delight, most of them had splashed my victory all over their front pages.’

Piers continued: ‘I felt a sudden rush of exhilaration at the end of what had been a tumultuous but ultimately very satisfying day.

‘Then, as I reached the exit, still staring proudly at my phone, I walked straight into a large plate-glass window, banging my head so hard and loudly against it that concerned security guards rushed over to check I was OK.

‘I reeled back in agony, semi-concussed and with a cut opening above my right eye, only to see Harry’s massive head filling a nearby screen. He was smirking right at me.’

Piers said he ‘didn’t believe’ Meghan Markle’s comments about her mental health during her and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey (Picture: AP)

Piers had come under fire for saying he ‘doesn’t believe’ the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle’s comments about her mental health during an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

It sparked a huge wave of complaints, and after an on-air row with Good Morning Britain weather presenter Alex Beresford, Piers eventually decided to quit the show.

After the TV watchdog ruled he was entitled to express his views, Piers tweeted asking: ‘Do I get my job back?’

The TV star walked back his plea telling Daily Mail he wouldn’t go back ‘not without a public apology’ and he has ‘much bigger things coming up’.

Piers has since been pictured sat near the ITV director of television Kevin Lygo during a cricket match in London on Friday.
