Piers Morgan: 'Crosses a line' GMB host fumes on Twitter over 'threatened closure'

Piers Morgan, 54, was furious at the news circulating on Twitter yesterday regarding Pizza Express’ future, which sparked fears it was going bust.

The restaurant chain, which has 470 stores nationwide, has reportedly hired financial advisers ahead of talks with creditors over their £655 million debt.

The Good Morning Britain presenter said losing Pizza Express “crosses a line”, as he expressed his frustration in view of his 6.8 million Twitter followers.

Piers wrote: “I can deal with almost anything in life but not the threatened closure of @PizzaExpress.”

He fumed: “Some things are just beyond the pale and for me, this crosses a line. #SaveMyAmericanHot.”

One Twitter user agreed with Piers: “My mind went straight to American Hot too, a cracking pizza.”

“Can’t do without those dough balls,” another disgruntled fan said.

While a third suggested: “Maybe you could use your money and save the company?”

Pizza Express, which was founded in 1965 and now employs more than 14,000 people, is due to make the first instalment of its debt repayments by August 2021.

Piers didn’t stop there, he also vented about the possibility of the chain going under on Good Morning Britain today.

At the beginning of the show, Piers declared: “Now this has really cut me. I can deal with almost any Brexit fallout, any Trump mayhem, I can’t deal with this. Pizza Express may have to close.

“When I read that the day before I had ordered another one. Every two months I order one, I have Pizza Express and Big Macs on a month by month cycle.”

“I like the American Hot,” he shared.

“I’ve decided we can’t let Pizza Express go under,” Piers said, before asking viewers to share their memories of the restaurant chain.

He asked: “Did you fall in love in Pizza Express? Did you get divorced in Pizza Express? Did you have a fight in Pizza Express?”

Giggling, he added: “Did you have sex in Pizza Express?”

Susanna was stunned at Piers’ choice of words and exclaimed: “Up to the line, then Piers crosses it!”

Piers wasn’t the only famous name devastated about the restaurant’s financial hardship, as former Homes Under The Hammer star, Lucy Alexander, said she regularly visits her local chain.

The BBC favourite moaned: “#pizzaexpress nooooo this can’t be happening?”(sic)

She continued: “I know all the staff on a ‘hi how you doing mate’ level in my local #Hamptoncourt branch. AND The. calzone. Is. back.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am.
