Piers Morgan has slammed Kyle Walker for being a ‘reckless’ hypocrite after the Manchester City star apologised for inviting two escorts to his flat during the coronavirus lockdown.

Walker issued a plea to his social media followers for everyone to stay at home during the health crisis and not visit loved ones, but hours later paid for two women to come over to his flat.

Louise McNamara, 21, claims she left Walker’s flat at around 2am on Wednesday morning and said she was paid £2,200 in cash.

Walker is just the latest footballer to ignore lockdown rules and Good Morning Britain host Morgan hit out at the defender and Scotland’s chief medical officer Catherine Calderwood, who was recently forced to resign.

‘Footballers are posting rousing messages to the country saying stay indoors, don’t do anything stupid, be a good citizen,’ Morgan said on ITV.

‘Within literally a day [Walker] has hired two escorts to come to his home with his friend for a party. What could be more reckless than that?

‘Like the chief medical officer [in Scotland] it’s disgusting hypocrisy, its unbelievably selfish and reckless.’

Walker now faces a £240,000 fine from City, which comes to about two week’s wages.

‘I want to take this opportunity to issue a public apology for the choices I made last week,’ the England international said in a statement.

‘I understand that my position as a professional footballer brings the responsibility of being a role model.

‘As such, I want to apologise to my family, friends, football club, supporters and the public for letting them down.

‘There are heroes out there making a vital difference to society at the moment, and I have been keen to help support and highlight their amazing sacrifices and life-saving work over the past week.

‘My actions are in direct contrast to what I should have been doing regarding the lockdown.’
