Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's promise from 2016 sheds light on transfer plans amid Man Utd link

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has become linked with a transfer to Manchester United after shock claims emerged from Italy.

Reports suggest the Gabon International would be open to a move to Old Trafford this summer as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who appears set to sign for Inter Milan.

Arsenal would likely snub any approach from Manchester United to sign their Golden Boot winner, while the price of the transfer alone could put the Red Devils off making a concrete offer for the forward.

Aubameyang has always remained tight-lipped over his future, amid claims Chinese Super League clubs were lining up to offer him a huge contract not too long ago.

Speaking to L’Equipe back in 2016, Aubameyang said: “Before he died two years ago I promised him that one day I would play for Real Madrid.

“I celebrate my goals with a cartwheel in honour of Hugo Sanchez. I’ve seen many videos of him on the internet and I’ve been following him since I was a boy.”
