Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has urged Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar to complete a move to the Emirates before the transfer window closes.

The 22-year-old is rated as one of the finest talents in Europe and he’s believed to be keen on a move to north London.

However, Arsenal have had two bids for the midfielder rejected by Lyon as the offers have fallen short of the Ligue 1 club’s £44million asking price.

With just over a week left in until the transfer window closes, Arsenal are expected to submit a third bid for the France international and Lyon are under increasing pressure to sell after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

And Aubameyang has sent a clear message to the Frenchman that he would like to see him join the club in the next week.

Aubameyang committed his own future to the club earlier this month and the Gabon international has sent a clear message to the Frenchman that he would like to see him join the club in the next eight days.

Asked if he would like the club to sign Aouar, Aubameyang told Canal+: ‘Of course I am in favour [of signing him].

‘He would add quality. Let’s see what happens.

‘I cannot hide that, even if he is with Lyon.’

Aubameyang couldn’t help but laugh at the line of questioning, clearly aware of how much speculation there has been over the Gunners’ interest in the playmaker.

The 31-year-old is keen to see the club strengthen this summer after signing a new three-year deal.

Aubameyang thought about leaving the club before he was persuaded to stay by Mikel Arteta but the Gabonese wants the club to fulfill their promise of strengthening in the transfer market.

The Gunners captain took a dig at the club’s board on Twitter on Saturday night by ‘liking’ a tweet which suggested the striker deserved better than the team-mates he had around him at the Emirates.

The post which was originally written in French read: ‘He’s been so deserving of a team of the calibre of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, City, Liverpool, etc … not Arsenal for years.’
