Phoebe Waller-Bridge has quit the upcoming Amazon Prime Video reboot of Mr & Mrs Smith, according to reports.

The Fleabag star was due to appear in the TV series remake of the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie classic alongside Donald Glover, but is said to have departed the show over ‘creative differences’.

As it stands, the series is still being written with production expected to kick off in 2022.

While Glover is still attached to the project as star and executive producer, Deadline reports Amazon will be on the hunt for a new female lead to take Waller-Bridge’s place.

The actress and writer still has an overall deal inked with Amazon Prime.

When it was announced Glover and Waller-Bridge would be teaming up for Mr & Mrs Smith, Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke enthused: ‘Talk about the dream team! Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world.

‘It’s truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team. Mr. & Mrs. Smith is an iconic property, and we can’t wait to see how Donald, Phoebe and Francesca make it their own.’

The original 2005 Mr & Mrs Smith film follows a married couple of secret assassins, who are eventually hired to kill each other and suddenly their vows go out the window and it’s war.

Metro.co.uk has contacted a spokesperson for Amazon for comment on this story.

Mr & Mrs Smith is expected to stream on Amazon Prime in 2022.
