Pharmacy used by the Queen is selling pills made of Berlin Wall ‘that boost relationships and break down emotional barriers’

A PHARMACY used by the Queen is selling bizarre Berlin Wall pills that are said to boost relationships and break down emotional barriers.

The homeopathic treatment is derived from concrete taken from the wall, which divided East and West Germany from 1961 to 1989.

It is ground down, mixed with lactose and diluted hundreds of times in water until there is not a single molecule of the wall remaining.

There is no scientific evidence homeopathic treatments work and chief medical officer Sally Davies has slammed them as rubbish.

They are no longer available on the NHS after chief executive Simon Stevens said they were “placebo at best” and a waste of £4million a year.

But the pills are sold by Ainsworths pharmacy, which holds royal warrants from the Queen and Prince Charles, in Marylebone, London.

The Sun bought a 14g tube of the Berlin Wall pills from the pharmacy yesterday  for £7.80. A 500g bottle costs as much as £76.20.

The firm’s website makes no medical claims about the treatment but forums and blogs online rave about their qualities.

One boasts: “This remedy has empowered many patients to break free from years of violent abuse.”

‘NO RELIABLE EVIDENCE’

Another says it can treat people who put up barriers to keep others at bay or those who have no walls and leave themselves vulnerable.

Prof Edzard Ernst, from the University of Exeter, said: “Berlin Wall is one of the most bizarre remedies in the realm of homeopathy.

“Homeopaths do not believe it is a pharmacological action, but it is a sort of vital force that is acting.

“So the vital force, the spiritual force that was in the Berlin Wall, the intention that was in the Berlin Wall, is in the remedy.

“The pills are diluted to the point where they are devoid of a single molecule of the wall.

“There is no reliable evidence that Berlin Wall has any health effects beyond placebo.”

Prof Ernst described Prince Charles as “silly” for becoming patron of the Faculty of Homeopathy.

And he said the Queen’s royal warrant gave the products sold by the pharmacy a “sense of credibility”.

Ainsworths declined to comment.
