PewDiePie thought he was ‘gonna die’ from Coronavirus ‘thingy’ while on YouTube break in Japan

PewDiePie is back after a month-long break from YouTube – and he’s apparently spent most of it in Japan worrying about the Coronavirus.

As well as getting a haircut and growing a beard, by the looks of things.

The internet star uploaded his first vlog in a month today [21 February 2020], and as well as the usual surreal commentary, he explained what he’d been up to on his hiatus.

‘Since I was in Japan during the time of the thingy [we think it’s safe to conclude he’s talking about the Coronavirus], I bought about three boxes of these [face masks],’ the 30-year-old explained.

‘I was like “It’s gonna happen, I’m gonna die.” Not on my watch! Not gonna happen!’

He then proceeds to put multiple masks on his head and… well, we’re not really sure what he’s doing. [Watch for yourself at the 1:00 mark above].

There have been at least 107 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in Japan.

The most confirmed cases have been in China (75,893), with 16 in the United States and nine in the UK.

Elsewhere in the video, PDP revealed that he has a secret word and/or phrase fans must say to him before he’ll speak to them on the street.

Explaining how his break had changed his relationship with his fans, he said: ‘It made me appreciate I had an audience. I’d taken it for granted in a way. I’d only seen the negative part of having an audience.

‘My following became so big, I became tired of constantly being asked for stuff from people in the street.

‘For those who don’t know, we have a secret word now. If you meet me you have to say the secret phrase.

‘I think almost half the people said it. That made me feel good.’
