Peter Wright is in sensational form heading into the World Matchplay this weekend after winning his second title in just four days at Players Championship 19.

Snakebite lifted the German Masters trophy on Sunday and returned to the UK to storm to the title in Barnsley on Tuesday evening, beating Justin Pipe 8-5 in the final.

Wright never quite had to find his very best game to win in Cologne over the weekend, but he was absolutely sensational in South Yorkshire to pocket the £10,000 top prize.

The high water mark was an average of 113 in a 6-1 hammering of Dimitri van den Bergh in the last 32.

The 49-year-old also whacked in averages of 103.3 in a win over Glen Durrant and 102.8 in the quarter-finals against Vincent van der Voort.

However, despite the superb four days for the Scot, he has played down his form, insisting he has much more to come if he can rediscover his best.

‘I’m still not back to my 2017 level yet, nowhere near in fact, but I’m going to keep working to get back there and this is proof of that,’ said Wright after his win in Barnsley.

‘I changed darts from the weekend so that I could be more consistent and most of the day I played well to beat some fantastic players.

‘It’s also good to see Justin reach the final, he’s been working very hard to get his game back. He let me off early on and I capitalised.’

Pipe was competing in his first PDC final since the 2015 Dutch Darts Masters but beat the likes of Gerwyn Price, Kyle Anderson and Mensur Suljovic en route to the final against Wright.

The Force saved his best performance of the day till the final, but even a huge average of 103.3 wasn’t enough to beat Snakebite, despite him only averaging 96.9.

Pipe has not qualified for the World Matchplay, which begins this Saturday, but Wright will now be considered one of the firm favourites to lift the trophy in Blackpool.
