Two Danish legends have teamed up to honour Manchester United’s world famous stadium, as Schmeichel prepares to meet fans next March.
It’s the 110th anniversary of Old Trafford this year and to help celebrate it Lego have already released a giant-sized replica of the stadium.
The exact birthday is today though, 19 February, so now they’ve also announced that fellow Danish export Peter Schmeichel will be returning to Manchester to meet fans for a signing on 6 March.
In the meantime, he’s delivered a promotional set to its own pitchside podium and dropped off 1998 other sets to the Lego store in Manchester, in reference to the treble-winning team from the 1998-99 season.
Schmeichel will be at the Lego Store in the Manchester Arndale Shopping Centre from 5 to 7pm on Friday, 6 March, along with Lego designer Michael Psiaki.
The 3,898 piece Lego set is a 1:600 replica of the real thing and includes details like the United Trinity statue and the Munich memorial clock.
It’s not cheap, at £249.99, but it’s also not small as it measures 6.5” (18.5cm) high, 18” (47cm) long and 15” (39cm) wide.
The first game at Old Trafford was held on 19th February 1910 and was an FA Cup Final replay between Bradford City and Newcastle United, where Bradford won 1-0. The game was played to a crowd of 45,000 fans, whereas now Old Trafford has a capacity of 75,000.
