Peter Kay announces live comeback shows in aid of cancer charity

British comedian Peter Kay has broken his long silence and announced a return to performing with two live Q&A (question and answer) sessions later this year. His Twitter account posted the news that the two Q&A sessions will be hitting the stage in August of this year in aid of a brain cancer charity called Doing It For Laura.

Peter’s tweet read: “Peter Kay will be performing two very special live Q&A’s in aid of Laura Nuttall at Manchester O2 Apollo on 7th Aug 21. Tickets go on sale on this Friday (30th July) at 9am.”

The announcement came with links to where fans could buy tickets, as well as a link to the charity organisation, which aids Laura Nuttall, a terminally ill 21-year-old woman with brain cancer.

Laura’s mother, Nicola Nuttall, posted on the official Facebook account for the charity: “Still can’t believe this actually happening!

“So incredibly grateful to Peter for doing this and just cannot wait for August 7.”

Both of the events will be held at the Manchester O2 Apollo venue.

The Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere star has been performing stand up comedy and sketch shows since 1996, after making a name for himself with hit TV show Phoenix Nights.

Peter stepped down from performing in every capacity in 2017.

The comic was due to go on a UK and Ireland tour titled Have Gags, Will Travel from 2018 to summer 2019 before he cancelled the entire event.

The shows were planned to raise money for Cancer Research UK and were going to take place in Manchester, Liverpool and London.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the shows were cancelled.

In the past decade, Peter became best known for his BBC show Peter Kay’s Car Share.

He starred in the two-person show alongside Sian Gibson.

The show won Best Comedy at the 2016, 2018 and 2019 National Television Awards, as well as the BAFTA TV Awards for Best Male Comedy Performance and Best Scripted Comedy at the 2016 awards ceremony.

The show returned in April 2020 in audio form to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines.

Tickets for Peter Kay’s shows will be available Friday at 9am on Ticketmaster.
