Peter Crouch: Football ace, 38, reveals ‘horror’ in near tragedy with wife Abbey Clancy

Peter Crouch, 38, who is married to his model wife Abbey Clancy, 33, were involved in a boating accident while holidaying in Sardinia. The former football star discussed the incident which took place in 2009 in his new autobiography I Robot: How to be a Footballer 2, which is being serialised in the Mirror. The couple were soaking up the sun on a boat trip off the coast of the island, when the weather took a nasty turn and their anchor became stuck. The ex-Liverpool player said: “I’d hired a little motorboat for just the two of us and we dropped anchor just off Porto Cervo to catch a few rays.

“We’d cracked open the champers and were sunbathing on the deck when I became aware the weather had taken a sudden turn for the worse.”

The now-football pundit continued: “I tried to grab the anchor but it was snagged on something and when I tried to put the boat in reverse nothing happened and we started to panic.

“The wind was sending waves thumping against the hull, spinning us round on our accidental mooring, swinging towards a shoreline that on closer inspection seemed to be made entirely of large, jagged rocks.”

He added: “What had begun as a romantic gesture was turning into a horror movie and the rocks were getting closer and closer. But just as things were getting really desperate, the rope snapped and we roared away.

“I don’t know whether we’d have died or not if we’d crashed into the rocks but it certainly wouldn’t have done wonders for my good looks.”

Meanwhile, the couple who tied the knot in 2011, recently welcomed their fourth child Jack, earlier this year.

Peter and Abbey are also parents to Johnny, one, Sophie, eight, and their youngest daughter Liberty, four.

The blonde beauty recently spoke about motherhood and hinted she has a “favourite” child.

Speaking to OK! online, Abbey divulged: “[Johnny] he’s the prince! Yes, he’s still the favourite and he’s definitely a mummy’s boy.

“Johnny’s just gorgeous, he’s really gentle and loving. He’s always cuddling and kissing me.”

She also chatted about how she juggles family life and admitted she relies on her mum to help with childcare duties.

The Next Top Model star added: “When I’m at home and the kids are driving me crazy, I want to go to work and be on my own for an hour.

“I love having a busy house, though, it just feels really natural to me.”

Earlier this year, Peter confirmed they’d had a little boy on Twitter and wrote in view of his 656,000 followers: “Our beautiful baby boy was born Monday 3rd June mother and baby Divock Samrat Crouch are doing well.”

However, he later clarified that Divock was not the name of his newborn son.

Peter tweeted: “Our boy is beautiful – the name is still to be clarified unfortunately Abs not going for Divock Samrat.”
