PETE Doherty was forced to get hospital treatment and cancel a radio appearance after being injured by a hedgehog.
The rocker, 40, ended up with a prick in his finger during a dog walk – and the wound got infected.
Pete was out walking his two Siberian huskies when one of them attacked a hedgehog and tried to eat it.
When Pete – who has previously dated Kate Moss – went to get the terrified hedgehog out of his pet dog’s mouth, however, he got one of its spines lodged in his finger.
He then took himself off to hospital to have the spine removed and be treated for any possible infection.
The news was revealed today by BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Nihal Arthanayake on his Afternoon Edition show, which Doherty was meant to be appearing on.
Speaking on his show, the presenter said that Hollywood star Kiefer Sutherland had been drafted in to replace Doherty, who was meant to be on the show at 2pm.
He said: “We have Kiefer Sutherland coming up – he is replacing Pete Doherty.
“Pete Doherty tried to rescue a hedgehog from his dog’s mouth…a spine from the hedgehog went into his hand and it is infected.
“He is now in hospital having the infected hedgehog spine removed from his finger.
“That is the reason Pete Doherty is not on this show today. We wish Pete Doherty well because whatever has happened is serious enough that he has not been able to make it on the show.”
Pete’s PR confirmed the story, telling The Sun Online: “Pete was trying to protect the hedgehog from the dogs, and vice versa”.
However, it won’t affect Pete’s tour, which starts on Friday in Belfast.
