Pete Doherty is in good spirits despite receiving hospital treatment for an infection after getting stabbed by a hedgehog, and has taken to Twitter to share a photo in the midst of his ordeal.

The Libertines frontman was taken to hospital this week to seek medical treatment for a wound on his hand, caused by getting pricked by a hedgehog spine.

In a selfie shared with his Twitter followers on Tuesday, Pete is seen shirtless and holding up his arm which has been hooked up to an IV drip.

He captioned the selfie: ‘Nozzleville, West Virginia.’

Assuring fans that he’s still got his sense of humour, Pete also shared a photo of a card sent by a well-wisher which had a hedgehog on the front with the words: ‘I am so sorry you’re feeling prickly.’

The British rocker wrote next to the image: ‘“I felt a bit of a prick”’.

Earlier in the evening, Pete had recounted the incident in a very Pete Doherty fashion.

The 40-year-old explained: ‘Zeus and Narco had the cute wee verminous Shnuffle shuffle Pig of the the Hedge in their gobs and I wrapped my hand in a tshirt and freed the wee bugger and got a tiny cut.. That was Wednesday night/Thursday morning..

‘Cue three days in a van with a carefree attitude to potentially infected forefingers. Infectious new songs on the album though [sic].’

We can’t wait to hear that hedgehog banger.

In more layman terms, Pete was taking his pet Siberian huskies for a walk last week when they tried to have the hedgehog for dinner.

Pete tried to be a superhero and swooped in to save the hedgehog from being savaged but got accidentally got stabbed by the animal in the process.

The singer’s reps previously told The Sun: ‘Pete was trying to protect the hedgehog from the dogs, and vice versa.’

Pete’s attempts at saving the day contrast reports from earlier this year which claimed he allowed his pet dogs to ‘savage’ a neighbour’s cat to death.
