Leo the Cat, who starred in Pet Sematary’s 2019 remake, has died.

His death was confirmed by animal trainer Kirk Jarrett on an Instagram account dedicated to Leo, after he adopted the cat shortly after filming.

In the post, Jarrett wrote: ‘It is with great sadness that we tell you that Leo has passed away.

‘He will be forever missed by his human and fur family. May his star always shine bright.’

Four Maine Coon cats were used to play Church in the film. Tonic and Leo were the main cats used, with the former playing the living version while Leo was used for his undead resurrection.

Leo’s face also adorned the main posters for the remake in terrifying, scowling style.

The 2019 flick was the second adaptation of Stephen King’s 1983 novel, following the original 1989 horror film.

Pet Sematary follows a family who discover a mysterious graveyard which resurrects the dead, with the 2019 remake starring Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz and John Lithgow.

It’s been a bad month for famous felines, with meme sensation Grumpy Cat having also passed away after falling ill.
