PES 2020 is just around the corner, but despite the renewal of Konami’s partnership with Barcelona, don’t expect a whole host of licenses for the new game. EA Sports still dominates in this department, and is the core reason on why FIFA outsells Pro Evo year on year.
Last year, the game lost UEFA rights for the Champions League and Europa League to FIFA 19, but did add the Russian, Argentinian, Danish, Portuguese, Swiss, Scottish and Belgian leagues to its list of licences.
So, if you are looking to play with the official kits and crests of Premier League heavyweights such as Chelsea and Manchester City, or European giants Real Madrid, they won’t be on PES 2020. There is a solution, however.
Konami have a feature on PES that makes it possible to download an option file to add the league names, team names and kits that are missing on the game.

What is an option file?
An option file, or patch, is created by an independent party, and can be downloaded on the game to add items that are missing. Games such as PES and Football Manager can have option files added to them to bring the kits, crests and branding they do not have the licence for.
What platforms is the option file available on?
You can download an option file for PES 2019 on PlayStation 4 and PC. Due to the inability to transfer files off a USB drive on Xbox One, you will not be able to add the licenses.
How to download the option file
The below applies to the option file for PES 2019 – this article will be updated once the option file is available for PES 2020.
On your computer, look for an option file through your browser. PES World provide option files for each league (pesworld.co.uk/ps4-downloads) with PES Patch also rolling out downloads (pes-patch.com/category/pes-2019-patch).
PS4 instructions
Download the file you want and put the files in a folder named WEPES on a USB device and plug it into your console.
Turn on the console and load up PES 2019. Head over to the Extras tab and then Edit. Scroll down to Import/Export and accept the Data Import Precautions.
To first download the correct competition packages, head to ‘Import Competition’.
Select the USB storage device, and all the files should appear. You can either select the individual ones you want or select all by pressing square. Confirm, and ignore the Advanced Settings by pressing OK.
Once this has downloaded, repeat the process for ‘Import Team’.
Fire up Exhibition and see all the official crests and kits at your disposal.
