PES 2020 has officially-licensed Manchester United

Expect to see an officially-licensed Manchester United in PES 2020.

Konami has signed a deal with the club so its players, legends (David Beckham and Park Ji-Sung confirmed) and stadium feature prominently in the game.

Up and coming midfielder Scott McTominay is an official PES 2020 ambassador, Konami said.

PES 2020 has a virtual recreation of Old Trafford, as you’d expect. Numerous players have been full-body 3D scanned and will be in the game at launch.

There’s also a new mode called Matchday “that will allow MUFC fans to come together for weekly events to compete in the biggest matches and secure victory against the club’s biggest rivals”.

Official licensing has of course been something Konami has struggled with when it comes to PES over the years, with football video game rival FIFA enjoying a vice-like grip over the Premier League. In previous versions of PES, Manchester United are called Man Red, and Old Trafford wasn’t in last year’s title.

Is this new deal with Manchester United a sign of things to come, perhaps? Chris Tapsell played PES 2020 at E3 and was impressed. It’s out in September.
