Pep Guardiola's defiant message to Man City stars in response to UEFA ban


Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reportedly issued a defiant message to his players in a meeting after their UEFA ban.

The Premier League champions are facing two years out of European football pending an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after being found guilty of Financial Fair Play breaches by UEFA.

The looming risk of two years without Champions League football has thrown the future of Guardiola and star players into doubt.

The club held a meeting with players on Saturday to discuss the situation – and The Athletic claim Guardiola said: “Now, more than ever, we have to show them that we are not money, we are talent.”

Guardiola reportedly attempted to rally his troops with their biggest game of the season approaching later this month against Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16.

His message is said to have been met with a defiant response from players keen to silence UEFA and prove themselves after returning from their winter break.

He stressed he believes they can knock out Real Madrid to reach the quarter-finals and reminded them of mistakes made in previous Champions League games which have cost them.

They have also been told to remain more focused than ever and avoid distractions after Friday’s news which came as a shock to players.

The club contacted agents of players and asked them to stay calm as well as requesting players stay quiet on social media in the wake of the news.

Despite the impending uncertainty, Guardiola is focused on the present and challenges they face between now and the end of the season.

City return to action against West Ham next Wednesday in their rearranged Premier League fixture before their huge clash with Real Madrid as he aims to give his side extra motivation for European triumph.
