Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes Bayern Munich are favourites to win the Champions League this season.

City are on course to reach the quarter-finals after they sealed a 2-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus secured the win for City, who have now won their last 19 games in all competitions.

But despite his side’s impressive form, Guardiola feels Bayern Munich, who hammered Lazio 4-1 in their last-16 first leg on Tuesday, are better placed to win the Champions League this term.

‘In general, we controlled the game. Unfortunately today we were not clinical enough up front,’ Guardiola told BT Sport.

‘That is something we have to improve in this competition. Up front, we have to be more clinical. In this competition, you have to be perfect to make sure you go through.

‘When I see Bayern Munich I don’t think we are favourites. My target is West Ham in three days.

‘If people say we are favourites, we have to accept it, but a team who, in their whole history, has been to a semi-final once? OK, they say it, we have to accept it.’

Guardiola also offered a tongue-in-cheek response when asked for the reasons behind City’s 19-game winning run.

‘We have a lot of money to buy a lot of incredible players,’ said Guardiola.

‘It is true. Without good quality players, we cannot do it. The humanity of this group… the players are fantastic and have an incredible relationship. They play every game to think just win that game.

‘Today, enjoy the night and then think about West Ham. When people talk about the second leg, the second leg is in three weeks so now the next target is West Ham. That is all I am concerned with.’
