Pep Guardiola has joked that Liverpool are still ‘in debit’ to Manchester City when it comes to fixture pile-up.

City close the gap at the top of the Premier League to eight points with a 4-1 victory over Burnley on Tuesday evening.

But Liverpool have the chance to restore their 11-point lead over City if they beat Everton at Anfield on Wednesday.

Liverpool face a tricky winter schedule due to their involvement in the Club World Cup this month and face the prospect of playing 10 games in 30 days.

But Guardiola has pointed out to his title rivals that City played more games than them last season.

‘We are the only team who have eight games? Liverpool [have] nine?’ said Guardiola.

‘Last year we played 10 games more than Liverpool so don’t worry, they are still in debit.

‘But it is what it is, it’s a crazy month in December so… no problem, we are going to try, no problem.’
