What will happen in Pennyworth?

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Pennyworth actor Jack Bannon said of the series and his character: “[Alfred’s] 26, he’s just out of the army and he’s thrust into this civilian world which is 1960s London but not as was.

“It’s in DC’s London, so it’s 13 degrees weirder and darker than it was.”

“Alfred is trying to build a nice business so he can settle down and have kids but because of this dark London they’re on the brink of civil war and because of certain underground things […] in episode one he’s drawn back into the violence.”

Thomas Wayne actor Ben Aldridge added: “We’re in this crazy weird 1960s London where they’re on the brink of civil war and civil war or civil unrest.

“Thomas is kind of fresh to London, he’s a bit green to it and he doesn’t know how to navigate these kinds of dangerous streets whereas Alfred has the street smarts and the know-how.

“So Thomas is trying to recruit Alfred the entire time but I think Alfred is very resistant.

“He doesn’t want to be drawn back into the world of violence that he’s come from previous in his life.”

However, this being a DC Comics series, Alfred and Thomas will also have villains to fight against like Lord Harwood (Jason Flemyng) and Bet Skyes (Paloma Faith).
