Pedro has penned a classy and heartfelt farewell message to Chelsea fans after confirming he has left the club, with the Spaniard opting to join Roma on a free transfer.

Frank Lampard had been keen to keep the 33-year-old, who provides plenty of experience in an otherwise young squad, but he wanted assurances over playing time – having made just 11 Premier League appearances last season – and a bigger salary than Chelsea’s hierarchy were prepared to pay.

He ultimately opted to join Roma after his contract with Chelsea came to an end, though he is sad to leave Stamford Bridge and wishes the club good luck in the future.

‘After five wonderful years my stage at Chelsea FC comes to an end,’ Pedro wrote on Instagram on Sunday.

‘Thanks a lot to the club’s board, to the coaches and teammates I’ve had, and of course to the fans: thank you for the experience of being a member of your big family.

‘I’ve been very happy here, you’ve made me feel like home.

‘It’s been a pleasure and an honour to play for this club and win the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League titles, as well as competing in one of the world’s best football leagues.

‘I made the right choice, I take with me wonderful and unforgettable memories.

‘I say farewell very pleased with this stage of my career, and I’m also very excited with the next to begin. Thanks and good luck for the future. Come on Blues!!!’

Pedro joined Chelsea in 2015 from Barcelona, with the west London club beating off serious competition from Manchester United, and he went on to score 29 goals in 137 Premier League appearances, winning the title under Antonio Conte in the 2016-17 season.
