Paul Pogba transfer: Real Madrid star Toni Kroos discusses Man Utd exit

Toni Kroos has warned Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba he will not give up his place in the Real Madrid starting line-up without a fight.

France international Pogba, who rejoined the Red Devils for £89 million three years ago, has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu this summer.

Chelsea star Eden Hazard and Paris St-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe are also considered top targets for the La Liga giants as Zinedine Zidane prepares to overhaul his squad on the back of difficult campaign.

The Madrid boss has previously revealed his admiration for Pogba, while the 26-year-old has previously said that joining Los Blancos would be ‘a dream’.

Despite admitting that he is also a fan of Manchester United star, Kroos insists he is prepared to take him on in the battle for a first-team spot.

When asked about Pogba, the Germany playmaker told reporters: “I like this player but nothing changes for me.

“I will continue doing what I’ve done all these years, fighting for my place, playing well, and when I’m at a good level I think I have no problems.”

Kroos committed his future to Real on Monday by signing a four-year contract extension with the club, which will keep him the 29-year-old at the Bernabeu until 2023.

Since moving from Bayern Munich in 2014, the German has won 12 trophies, including three Champions League crowns and a La Liga title.

“Today is a very happy day for me,” he added.

“I’ve had a lot of success at Real Madrid and I’m sure that we will have much more in the next four years”.

Madrid’s season came to a close with a 2-0 loss at home to Real Betis on Sunday.

It was disappointing end to a difficult campaign, which saw the Spanish giants finish third in La Liga – 19 points behind champions Barcelona .

The club also lost to Ajax in the last 16 of the Champions League – a competition they had won the previous three seasons – but Kroos says the club are determined to improve next season.

“The season has been disappointing, even more so when you’re used to winning,” he continued.

“But it’s quite normal, this can happen. The thing that is not normal is what happened before. To win three successive (Champions League) finals is not normal. It seemed impossible and we did it.

“But we’re already motivated for the coming season.

“We’re going to try to get back to the high level of the other seasons. I’m not going to say that we will win everything but we’re going to try.”
