Paul Pogba stayed at Man Utd after 'Adidas intervened in Real Madrid transfer'

Adidas reportedly acted as ‘peacemakers’ in Paul Pogba’s transfer talks with Manchester United .

Speaking at the start of the summer, Pogba admitted he would look to seek a fresh challenge away from Old Trafford.

Real Madrid were linked with Pogba throughout the summer but a bid failed to materialise, despite Zinedine Zidane’s intentions to take him to the Bernabeu.

But it has now emerged that Adidas actively encouraged Pogba to remain at Old Trafford for another year at least.

Pogba is three years into a whopping 10-year deal with the sportswear giants, who are also United’s kit sponsors.

The Daily Star reports a United source said: “They acted as peacemakers between the player, his agent and the club.

“Adidas were crucial in persuading all the parties to resolve their differences for another season.”

That kit deal is worth a staggering £75m-a-year to United while Adidas are also Real Madrid’s sponsor.

But the Spanish giants have global superstars Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale in their ranks, while Pogba remains the face of the United side.

It is claimed he is worth more to Adidas while at Old Trafford, than as one of several star names at the Bernabeu.

Pogba has played in all four of United’s matches so far but has not joined up with the France squad through injury.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will hope the midfielder has recovered in time for the tricky clash with Leicester after the international break.
