Gary Neville appears to have hinted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces some potentially career defining decisions when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

After a record breaking start to his tenure, the Norwegian has presided over a disastrous run of form which has seen his Manchester United side crash out of the Champions League with a whimper and lose ground in the race to secure a top four spot.

Solskjaer appeared to have reunited the fractured dressing room left behind by Jose Mourinho, but cracks are beginning to emerge as a consequence of a dismal run of form which has seen United lose seven of their last nine matches in all competitions.

The 46-year-old attempted to downplay speculation surrounding Paul Pogba’s future ahead of Sunday’s pivotal Premier League showdown with Chelsea at Old Trafford, after a week in which the France international was severely criticised by a number of Solskjaer’s former teammates.

Roy Keane essentially branded the Frenchman a liar ahead of the midweek Manchester derby defeat, while Neville himself made no attempt to hide the identities of the players he thought should be sold this summer in the aftermath of a shocking 4-0 drubbing at Everton last Sunday.

‘I don’t need to name them,’ he said. ‘They are in the newspapers every day and always on social media.’

Neville, ironically, took to social media himself on Friday posting a message with read: ‘The first step to getting what you want is to get rid of what you don’t.’

The comment follows Neville’s claim, which came in the wake of the 2-0 defeat to City, that Pogba does not want to be at the club amid reported interest from Real Madrid.

‘I think he is world class,” Neville told Sky Sports. I don’t think he wants to be here, that’s his problem. I think his agent’s into him.’

Neville’s fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher appeared to chime with the former England full-back’s assessment of Pogba, claiming he should be the first player Solskajer dispenses in the close season.

‘The immediate concern for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not who Manchester United should buy to rebuild the club. It is who they sell,’ he wrote in his Daily Telegraph column.

‘There would be one name on the top of my list. Paul Pogba.

‘If Real Madrid have £100 million and Zinedine Zidane wants him, United can solve the first of many problems as their long reconstruction gets underway.’
