Paul Merson believes Paul Pogba should be ‘big enough’ to tell Mino Raiola to ‘keep his nose out’ amid the super-agent’s row with his current club Manchester United.

It’s widely expected United will cut their ties with Pogba this summer, with a public war of words between the World Cup winner’s agent and those connected with Old Trafford souring the mood.

Raiola and Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have exchanged verbal blows, while the agent didn’t take kindly to being criticised by club legend Gary Neville over his behaviour.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson thinks the time has come for United to stop dealing with Raiola but he advised Pogba to keep his house in order rather than allowing a spat between his agent and the club go public.

‘I agree with Manchester United’s stance on dealing with Mino Raiola,’ Merson told Sky Sports.

‘You’re talking about a £100m World Cup winner in Paul Pogba and his agent runs the show. The player should be big enough to say to his agent, ‘wait there – I’m playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world here – keep your nose out’.

‘It’s embarrassing. Roy Keane and Jamie Carragher were right with what they said on MNF – you’ve got to draw a line with agents. You can’t keep paying an agent all this money just to get a player in. You’ve got to draw the line somewhere.

‘They’d only be paying the price if they don’t get into the top four, but who’s to say how Erling Haaland (a Raiola client) would do it in the Premier League? It’s not the Bundesliga. This is the hardest league in the world, so who’s to say he would be scoring all those goals here?’

Pogba remains sidelined with an ankle injury and has not featured for the club since a 4-1 Premier League win against Newcastle in December.
