Arsenal legend Paul Merson says he is ‘unconvinced’ by Leeds United in the Premier League so far and is expecting them to get rolled over by a top team in the near future.

The Whites narrowly lost to Liverpool in a seven-goal thriller on the opening day of the season, but grabbed their first league victory last weekend, beating Fulham 4-3 at home.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side play an exciting brand of attacking football, which has seen them score plenty, but also leak goals at the back.

Merson admits he’s sceptical about Leeds’ credentials and feels it’s is only a matter of time until they are dismantled by a top side.

‘I’m not convinced by Leeds,’ Merson told the Daily Star. ‘They could easily have lost to Fulham and a really good team are going to beat them heavily soon.

‘Leeds got lots of praise for the way they played at Anfield but I thought Liverpool just turned up expecting to win and didn’t take them seriously enough.

‘They won’t finish where everyone seems to think they will – but they will finish above West Brom.’

Bielsa’s side travel to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United on Sunday, boosted by the arrival of new defensive signing Diego Llorente from Real Sociedad.

The Argentine boss admitted he has no qualms about Llorente’s ability to adapt to the English game.

‘He’s a centre-back who can play either side,’ Bielsa said. ‘He has a sufficient technique to play in the Premier League.

‘He also has the ability to adapt to the physical demands of the league.’
