MANCHESTER CITY have announced a new contract for young winger Patrick Roberts – who will join Norwich City on loan.
After two-and-a-half years with Celtic and a spell in Spain, the coming campaign will represent Roberts’ first proper crack at the Premier League.
He will join on July 1 in a season-long deal, as exclusively revealed by Sun Sport on Wednesday.
The Canaries announced the capture with a strong reference to Love Island, describing their man as: “22, from London and spent last season in sunny Spain… it’s Patrick!”
Fans of the newly-promoted club couldn’t wait to see Roberts strut his stuff, one commenting: “Might be biased but genuinely can’t think of a better club for a young player to be joining right now.”
And the 22-year-old has also committed his long-term future to City, putting pen to paper on a two-year extension.
With his previous deal due up at the end of next season, this contract takes him through to 2022.
Roberts joined the Eastlands club from Fulham in 2015 for £12million, at the age of just 18.
A long stint in Scotland saw the England youth international hoover up trophies under Brendan Rodgers and he was sent out to Girona last summer.
In a year at the City-linked Catalan club, Roberts only started six games as his side were relegated from La Liga.
Norwich are looking to bolster their squad after winning the Championship title in 2018/19.
Joe Hart is understood to be on the Carrow Road club’s shortlist along with former Chelsea anchor man John Obi-Mikel.
