He explained: “This is a tricky one. I feel like Scotland is a united country with a real identity, however, I believe the issue of Scottish independence has been quite divisive for families and communities.
“After the vote, I hope we’ll reach unity again.”
Patrick was born in Edinburgh and once represented Scotland in the U18 and U19 national rugby sides before a shoulder injury cut short his career.
The independence referendum is a point of contention between SNP leader Ms Sturgeon and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
