Paris Jackson opens up about her struggles with self image and how she'd 'cut and burn' herself 


Paris Jackson has admitted to cutting herself and attempting suicide ‘many times’. 

In a new installment of her Facebook Watch series, Paris, 22, talks about her struggles with self image and harming herself during her lowest points suffering from depression.

The daughter of late singer Michael Jackson said cutting herself felt like a ‘distraction’ from her ’emotional pain’ in the second episode of Unfiltered: Paris Jackson and Gabriel Glenn Paris.

Paris talked about how she gained weight when she moved in with her grandmother Katherine after her father’s death in 2009. Her diet changed and she was allowed to eat more sugary foods including soda and cakes. 

The Soundflowers singer said: ‘I gained a lot of weight and it [eating] became an addiction… and then a cousin called me fat so I was like, “OK, I can’t do that anymore”. And that’s how I fell into self-harm.

‘I would cut and burn myself. I never thought that I would died from it because I was always in control of the razor and I knew how deep I was going.

‘Part of it was the dopamine release. Dopamine is called dope for a reason – it feels good.

‘Things like food and sex and drugs and music and working out… there’s a lot of things that cause a dopamine release.’

She continued, ‘Self harm was one of them, tattoos was one of them and so there was that and then also it was a distraction from emotional pain and transferring to physical pain and the need for control.

‘Yes, I tried to kill myself many times.’ she confessed.

Paris tried to commit suicide when she was 15 in 2013, slitting her wrist and taking an overdose of painkillers.

Afterwards she was sent to a therapeutic boarding school in Utah, where she spent her sophomore year of high school and half of her junior year.

She recalled: ‘I couldn’t take it anymore.’

The singer said she ‘didn’t have a choice’ but to go to the school.

‘I was underage. CPS said they would take me if I wasn’t sent there,’ Paris explained before saying she learned a lot about herself.

‘The problems I went in there with got fixed but I left there with way more problems than I came in with’.

In March 2019 it was reported that Paris had tried to commit suicide again but she vehemently denied it, tweeting ‘F**k you, you f**king liars.’

'So even though the lows are unbearably low, I would still rather that than nothing. Pain is way better than just [being] numb because at least you're feeling something.' she explained

Paris said she doesn't like taking medication for her depression which 'comes in waves' but used to take antidepressants and mood stabilizers: 'It just kind of clouded my third eye. I couldn't laugh as deeply,'

‘Paris had an accident this morning that required medical treatment. She is currently resting at home and doing fine.’ a source said at the time. 

Also in the episode Paris said she doesn’t like taking medication for her depression which ‘comes in waves’ but used to take antidepressants and mood stabilizers.
