Some 44 per cent have to cut back on holidays and luxuries as a result, a poll says.

One in four millennials — 4.5million — returns to their parents’ to save cash as the cost of living rises.

Help to buy ‘flop’

THE Help to Buy housing programme has done little for most private renters, a report claims.

Research by Shelter suggested only 4,100 households, or 0.2 per cent of lower-income private renters, used it in England last year.

Polly Neate, Shelter’s chief exec, said: “Help to Buy is a major failure.

“It boosts the bank balances of big developers but has nothing to offer the average renter.”
