Parasite movie: Donald Trump hits out at South Korean Oscar – asks for Gone with the Wind

Parasite has received enormous critical acclaim since it’s release and made history by becoming the first foreign language film to win Best Picture at the Oscars. While many celebrated the victory, it transpires Donald Trump isn’t a fan. The President launched a rant about the South Korean film’s success during a rally in Colorado.

“How bad were the Academy Awards this year?” he asked the crowd.

“And the winner is a movie from South Korea! What the hell was that all about?”

Trump went on to insist the US had “enough problems with South Korea with trade”.

“On top of it they give them the best movie of the year,” he queried, throwing his hands up in the air

Trump proceeded to call for the return of American classics like Gone with the Wind.

“Was [Parasite] good?” he asked. “I don’t know…

“You know, I’m looking for, like… Let’s get Gone with the Wind, can we get Gone with the Wind Back, please? Sunset Boulevard… so many great movies.

“The winner is from South Korea? I thought it was Best Foreign Film,” he added. “Best Foreign Movie. Did this ever happen before?”

“Then you have Brad Pitt,” he mused. “I was never a big fan of his.”

“He got up, said a little wise guy thing. He’s a little wise guy,” Trump told the crowd.

The President’s remarks about One Upon a Time in Hollywood star Pitt come after the actor mentioned the impeachment trial in his Oscars acceptance speech.

Receiving the award, he joked the amount of time he was been given to speak was “more than the Senate gave John Bolton”, referring to ex-White House National Security adviser Bolton who had offered to testify in the trial if subpoenaed.

Parasite was released in the UK earlier this month.

So far, it has grossed over $205 million at the box office worldwide.

It’s taken $44 million in the US, making it the fourth highest-grossing foreign language film in history in the States.

Ticket sales soared after Parasite’s shock Oscar win which saw the movie take the top prize from favourite 1917.
