Paddy McGuinness makes Top Gear dig at Jeremy Clarkson after A-Levels tweet

Paddy McGuinness has played Jeremy Clarkson at his own game with his A-Level results tweet.

Presenter Clarkson, 60, is known for his annual A-Levels gag where he shares his own poor results and contrasts them with his current success.

This year, the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? host wrote: “A level results not great? Don’t worry, I got a C and 2 Us and I’m currently building a large house with far reaching views of the Cotswolds.”

However, McGuinness, 47, couldn’t help but poke fun at Clarkson by goading him about his former role as Top Gear presenter.

“A level results not great?” he told his 497.6k followers, “Don’t worry, I got a C and two Us and I’m the host of the world’s biggest motoring show, Top Gear.”

He then added: “Some lovely fishing to be had after my last tweet. With the right bait in the water they’ll jump straight into the net.

“Having said that, a few folk took it literally? The mind boggles?”

Clarkson had his contract for the car show terminated in 2015, during filming of the show’s 22nd series, after Clarkson was accused of verbal and physical abuse against one of the show’s producers, Oisin Tymon.

McGuinness joined Top Gear in 2018 alongside Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff after previous host Matt LeBlanc announced his departure.

The tweets come as students across the country received their A-Level results at the end of a disruptive school year due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

Teachers were told to submit predicted grades for students after summer exams were cancelled, with the grades moderated by exam school boards.

The results have led to widespread fury and disappointment as it was revealed that 40 per cent of grades had been marked down.
