This year, some of the most popular beach resorts for Brits have seen a fall in prices compared to last year.

According to TravelSupermarket, due to Brexit uncertainty, a more competitive holiday market, and the good weather in the UK last summer, there has been huge discounts on prices this year.

Some of the biggest savings can be found in Spain’s Costa de la Luz, which has seen average summer holiday packages falling by as much as 38 per cent.

Costa Brava, Costa Blanca and Majorca have also seen a drop in prices, with package holidays costing eight per cent, 16 per cent and 15 per cent less respectively.

Similar year-on-year savings can be found across Europe.

The Cote D’Azur is now 32 per cent cheaper while the Algarve is 20 per cent cheaper.

Several Greek islands, including Zante, Kefalonia, Corfu and Crete have also seen falls in prices.

But it’s not just the year-on-year rates falling – travel firms are actively slashing prices.

On its website, TravelSupermarket is listing bargain seven-night breaks to Costa Brava from just £92pp, including hotel and flights for travelling in May.

The same package had previously been priced at £136pp, meaning a saving of £45pp.

In a similar location, a seven-night all-inclusive deal with flights and three-star accommodation now costs just £205pp, a saving of £128pp compared to its previous listing.

Emma Coulthurst, travel commentator for the holiday price comparison site, explains; “It is a fact that Brexit is causing summer package holiday prices to Europe to drop.  Some British holidaymakers say that they don’t want to book until they know the outcome of Brexit, while others say they want to avoid Europe altogether”.

Shed added; “It is not all about Brexit, though; there are a few other factors at play when it comes to Brits’ holiday choices.

“The return of British holidaymakers to Turkey and Tunisia and resorts such as Hurghada in Egypt has created a much more competitive holiday market compared with the last few years.

“With the lira offering excellent value, tour operators have reported recently that Turkey, in particular, has been selling well.

“As a result, many companies offering packages to the likes of Spain, Italy, France and Portugal have lowered prices in a bid to tempt Brits to book.

“In addition to this, the slow end to last summer for the travel industry, due to the UK’s heatwave, is affecting how holidays are being priced. Companies don’t want to be left with stock and are pricing to encourage people to book earlier”

Brits who are looking for a European holiday will be happy to know that prices at the beach resorts themselves, including for essentials such as meals and drinks, have also fallen year-on-year.

In its latest Holiday Costs Barometer, The Post Office revealed that holiday essentials in some resorts are up to 20 per cent cheaper – meaning that Brits can save while on holiday as well.
