Owen tells Klopp he's "got to run Liverpool properly" despite transfer wish

Michael Owen has given some advice to Jurgen Klopp as his transfer wish becomes reinforced at Liverpool.

It comes after the Reds were knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prevailed over Jurgen Klopp in the FA Cup in an entertaining clash at Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes all scored against the Reds in a 3-2 win, which saw Mohamed Salah net a brace.

For the Premier League champions, it was yet another miserable afternoon in what is fast becoming a growing problem for Klopp.

Liverpool have won just once in 2021, a 4-1 victory over Aston Villa’s youngsters, with losses coming against Burnley, Southampton and now United.

Liverpool are in a sticky situation

Klopp recently opened up over his wish for a new centre-back after injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, as well as fitness problems with Joel Matip.

Owen, who played for both clubs, has told the German manager to get his house in order at Liverpool, while also eluding to his transfer request.

An error from Rhys Williams allowed Rashford to score his goal, with the youngster making an appearance over Jordan Henderson in defence.

Owen said: “He decided against it in the game at Anfield, he obviously played with his midfield pairing at the back.

“He’s gone with the youngster Williams this time. I think he made it abundantly clear in his interviews this week that he would like a centre-half.

“If the money is not there, the money is not there.

“Hopefully, fingers crossed for Liverpool, a few of the injuries are going to start coming back in the coming months.”

The big games keep coming at Liverpool with them set to take on Tottenham next in the Premier League.
