Overwatch on Switch LEAKED: The next big Nintendo release revealed?

Gamers are excited about a new Nintendo Switch case that may point to the release of Overwatch on the handheld device.

There isn’t much to go on right now, but fans are hopeful that a recent retail leak ends with a big announcement at Blizzcon 2019.

A new design for an Overwatch-themed Nintendo Switch case has appeared online and briefly on Amazon.

Enough gamers took notice to take screen grabs and share it further, so even if it is removed in the coming hours, there’s still proof of its existence.

The new design includes an Overwatch logo, along with an orange and black colour pattern.

The listing also confirmed that it was “officially licensed by Nintendo and Blizzard Entertainment.”

Fans now checking the Amazon listing are seeing pictures of cute dogs instead, which isn’t such a bad runner up prize.

Blizzard has never fully committed to releasing Overwatch on Nintendo Switch, although there’s been plenty of talk of it happening among fans.

It would seem a great fit for the handheld device, which recently saw Diablo 3 ported to it.

The Express has asked about the possibility of Overwatch coming to the Nintendo Switch a couple of times.

During an interview with Express Online in 2017, game director Jeff Kaplan said that Blizzard would have to “revisit performance” to make Overwatch run on Nintendo Switch.

“I think the problem is, we’ve really targeted our min spec in a way that we would have to revisit performance and how to get on that platform,” he said.

“And also, it’s already challenging right now maintaining three platforms and patching simultaneously, which is something that we’ve finally been able to achieve.”

Kaplan said that he was proud of his team for being able to patch simultaneously and that a Nintendo Switch port would make that difficult.

Since then, there have been plenty of challenging ports made to the Nintendo Switch.

And while this Switch case isn’t enough to prove that Overwatch is being primed for a new platform, it will certainly bring hope to fans.

It follows rumours that Nintendo is preparing to hold a brand new Direct event in either September or October.

The last Nintendo Direct was held during E3 2019, and that was a belter – with some major announcements that had been demanded from fans revealed.

From Banjo Kazooie coming to Smash Bros, to Witcher 3 getting announced for the Switch, to the surprise reveal of Breath of the Wild 2.

It would make more sense for Blizzard to hold back such news for BlizzCon 2019 unless this new port is being primed for launch before November.

And there are already rumours that BlizzCon will hold some big announcements, including a sequel to Overwatch and a Diablo 4 reveal.

So fans will have to wait and see if a surprise Overwatch announcement is set to be revealed in the months to come.

Overwatch is currently available to buy on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
