Overwatch and Diablo cartoons in development suggests Blizzard exec

Overwatch and Diablo are  getting animated adaptations, according to the LinkedIn profile of Activision Blizzard’s co-president.

With the likes of Castlevania and The Witcher receiving beloved TV adaptations, it’s no surprise that more and more companies want a piece of the pie.

And we can now add two more gaming IPs to the list of titles being adapted for non-interactive media, in the shape of Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch and Diablo.

While neither of these have actually been officially announced, GameSpot noticed some interesting details on the LinkedIn account of Nick van Dyk, co-president of Activision Blizzard.

Van Dyk lists himself as an executive producer for a Diablo TV adaptation, and much like the aforementioned Castlevania, it will have an anime-like style and be distributed via Netflix.

There’s significantly less details for the Overwatch show, with van Dyk only writing that he and a creative partner have developed and sold an animated series based on the popular online shooter. Whether it will be animated exactly like the shorts Activision Blizzard have released in the past, or go the same route as Diablo, is unknown.

An Overwatch TV series makes too much sense and it’s honestly surprising it hasn’t already been made. Activision Blizzard has so far seemed content to reveal more about the title’s characters and world through the 3D animated shorts, but a full-on series could finally add some proper meat to the overall lore.

Activision Blizzard already have big plans for the future of both of these series. Diablo 4’s announcement arguably helped win over those that were dissatisfied with the state of the series and Overwatch 2 seems to have worked out a away to keep new and old fans on board.

Diablo 4 is slated to release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. While there’s no official confirmation yet, Overwatch 2 is expected to release on the same platforms, as well as Nintendo Switch.
