Outlander's Sam Heughan warns fans of creeps pretending to be him in online chat

Sam Heughan has warned Outlander fans of fake accounts circulating social media pretending to be him and asking for money.

The 40-year-old took to Instagram to tell his followers that he had been made aware of fake accounts engaging in conversations and impersonating him on various platforms.

Posting on his stories, Sam said: “Please stay safe and do not accept any requests from scammers on social media. I will never reach out directly asking for money, or will my representatives. Stay safe. For instance…”

The actor, originally from Balmaclellan, then went on to share a fake profile of someone using his name and wrote: “I have not been having private conversations I’m afraid. Ever.”

“Not on Linked In/Google hangouts or giving out my email or phone number. Please, be careful.”

Sam warned fans of the fake accounts

This is not the first time Sam has had to speak out on social media as back in April, he revealed he was fed up of being targeted by bullies and receiving death threats.

The 40-year-old said he has been accused of various things and said it was affecting his life and his mental state.

He said: “After the past 6 years of contast bullying, harassment, stalking and false narrative I am at a loss, upset, hurt and have to speak out. It’s affecting my life, mental state and is a daily concern.

“My co stars, friends, family, myself, in fact anyone I am associated with, has been subjected to personal slurs, shaming, abuse, death threats, stalking, sharing of private information and vile, false narrative.”

He said: “Recently, these false claims vary from me manipulating fans, being a closet-homosexual, trying to mislead or exhort fans for money and disregarding Covid advice. I’ve done none of the above.”

“These bullies have created a false narrative, shared private information and abused my loved ones and I, consistently for the last six years on blogs and SM.”

Sam said he was so fed up with the situation he felt he had no choice but to speak out. He added: “I’ve never spoken about it because I believe in humanity and have always hoped these bullies would just go away.

“I can’t elaborate for ongoing legal reasons but they are professionals: teachers, psychologists, adults who should know better.”

Kirkcudbright born Sam has played Jamie Fraser in the time-travel drama ‘Outlander’ since 2014.
