Hype for the upcoming sixth season of Outlander is gaining steam with filming coming to an end this week and an official release date set for early 2022. In a new video celebrating World Outlander Day, the Starz series has confirmed Lord John Grey (played by David Berry) will be back in the new instalment.
The cast of the popular historical drama came together this week to share some juicy new details about season six for World Outlander Day.
Series leads Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan were joined by the likes of Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin to thank fans for supporting Starz’ adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s novels over the years.
Also appearing were newcomers for season six, Mark Lewis-Jones, Alexander Vlahos and Jessica Reynolds, who will portray the Christie family.
Alongside the new and familiar faces, David Berry also made a surprise return in full costume as his character, Lord John Grey.
While Berry hasn’t appeared on any official listings for Outlander season six, Lord Grey seems to be coming back to Fraser’s Ridge after he departed to England in season five.
Grey’s exit was even marked by an emotional farewell post on Instagram by the star himself last year.
Even so, it seems Jamie is destined to reunite with his old friend yet again.
His return will have some dramatic ramifications over the series thanks to his complex relationship with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
However, Berry’s surprise visit to the set in full costume has all but confirmed John Grey will be making his way back to Fraser’s Ridge at some point next year.
Many fans took to Twitter to raise excitement for Grey’s return after spotting Berry in the new interview clips.
One viewer said: “Can’t wait to see season six and very happy to see Lord John will be a part of it.”
Another speculated: “WAIT they’re all in costume so does that mean we’ve got more John Grey scenes in season six? God, I hope so!”
